We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Research Laboratory Manager to join our School of Natural Sciences at Birkbeck.

You will be responsible for the safe and efficient running of research laboratory facilities and equipment for lab users, providing a high-quality technical service that supports and contributes to both research and teaching excellence within the School of Natural Sciences.

You will provide inductions, training, supervision and assistance in techniques, use of equipment and relevant software to researchers and students.

You will be experienced at working both independently and with other researchers and students, designing, planning and managing laboratory projects in line with all relevant health and safety, sustainability and financial requirements.

You will maintain the facilities to a high standard in terms of operation, organisation, maintenance and cleanliness of equipment and materials, and procure equipment, consumables and chemical and biological reagents, keeping accurate records of what is held within the research laboratories.

You will work with academic staff to develop and deliver a range of practical classes for our students, and to determine policies, priorities and procedures for the laboratories your manage.

You should have a PhD or equivalent in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a closely related subject and have an in-depth knowledge and up-to-date practical experience of biochemistry, molecular biology and protein purification methods.

Contract:

This role is offered on a fixed-term basis for a period of 1 year.

This is a full-time position, working 35 hours per week, with flexibility to allow for some teaching from 6-9 pm and occasional weekend and out-of-hours working.

Salary and benefits:

Grade 8 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £51,713 rising to £60,858 per annum.
