Are you an experienced accounts payable professional looking for your next opportunity in a dynamic, purpose-driven university? We are looking for a Payments Assistant to join our Finance team at Birkbeck, University of London this Summer 2026.
As Payments Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring our suppliers are paid accurately and on time, providing an excellent service to both internal and external stakeholders.
Working as part of a small, collaborative Payments team, you will be responsible for processing invoices and credit notes, reconciling supplier accounts, handling queries, and supporting the preparation of BACS and international payment runs. You will also maintain supplier records and support users of our Business World (Agresso) finance system.
As Payments Assistant, you should have:
- Good knowledge of accounts payable systems and processes, as well as financial regulations relevant to accounts payable including VAT treatment of invoices
- Understanding of three-way matching and coding supplier invoices, and experience of preparing BACS payment runs
- Proven IT skills and sound organisational and administrative skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Salary and benefits
£31,234 to £34,827 per year, Grade 4 on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated London Weighting Allowance.

Contract
