We are looking for a world-class academic in computer science to join Birkbeck’s Department of Computer Science and Information Systems.
We are looking for a world-class academic in computer science to join the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems at Birkbeck. The applicant will contribute to the research activities in the department and also to teaching in relevant areas of computer science. We are especially looking for applicants carrying out research in systems and networks that is complementary to our research groups (www.dcs.bbk.ac.uk/research) and to one or more of our interdisciplinary research centres, the Birkbeck Institute for Data Analytics and the Birkbeck Knowledge Lab.
As a core member of our academic staff, you will contribute to the full range of activities within the department including a strong research culture, blended and face-to-face teaching, administration, knowledge transfer, and public engagement.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
To apply for this role, you will be an experienced academic with a PhD in computer science or a closely related domain, whose research preferably focuses on systems and networks with applications in cloud or mobile computing, digital healthcare, the IoT or other application field. Your research will make a major contribution to one of our research groups (www.dcs.bbk.ac.uk/research) and to one or more of our interdisciplinary research centres, the Birkbeck Institute for Data Analytics and the Birkbeck Knowledge Lab.
Moreover, you will be:
- committed to excellence in research and teaching,
- research active, and have an interest in impact generating and public engagement activities, and
- able to work collegially, with strong interpersonal, organisational and administration skills, in order to effectively manage teaching teams.
You will ideally have teaching experience, and experience in design, delivery and convening of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level in modern software development, systems and networks, or information security.
You will also ideally have an understanding of Birkbeck, our principles of widening participation in higher education, and working with mature age, part time, and non-traditional learners from a diversity of backgrounds.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to give a presentation as well as attend an interview online for the post.

Lecture grade of the College's London Pay Scale which is £39,173 rising to £54,142 per annum
The salary quoted is on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
