Birkbeck, University of London, is a world-class research and teaching institution, a vibrant centre of academic engagement and excellence and London's only specialist provider of evening higher education. We are based in the heart of Bloomsbury, near the British Library, British Museum and other University of London colleges. The School of Business, Economics and Informatics is one of five schools within the College, bringing together its business-facing departments. It has expanded by over 70 per cent since its foundation in 2009 and now teaches 5,000 students across a multitude of programmes.
The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems (CSIS) is one of four departments in the School. It is a world-class centre of expertise in algorithms, data analytics, data management, experimental data science, knowledge representation, and programme verification. We engage in a broad spectrum of both fundamental and applied research, host two research centres, the Birkbeck Institute of Data Analytics (www.bida.bbk.ac.uk) and the Birkbeck Knowledge Lab (www.klab.bbk.ac.uk/research), and are a key partner in the recently founded national Institute of Coding (www.dcs.bbk.ac.uk/about/institute-of-coding).
We are particularly seeking applicants who would make a major contribution to one of our research groups. In particular, we are interested in applicants with expertise in Data Analytics/Data Science, who will also contribute to one or more of the interdisciplinary research themes of the Birkbeck Institute for Data Analytics or the Birkbeck Knowledge Lab.
Applicants are expected to have teaching experience and, in particular, be able to develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in data science, software engineering and computer programming. We require applicants to have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant field and have established an international reputation for outstanding research and publication in Computer Science, as well as a proven track record of working across disciplines. It is expected that you will have experience commensurate with the level of the post.
Grade 7 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £37,912 rising to £43,333 per annum.
The salary quoted is on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
