At Birkbeck, University of London, we are reimagining how education is designed, accessed and experienced by our students.

Following a major two-year project to develop HyFlex and flexible teaching spaces, systems and support, we are now looking to embed high-quality, inclusive and consistent flexible education across our programmes of study.

We are seeking an experienced and influential Head of Digital Flexible Education to champion this next phase. You will work across academic, professional services and senior leadership teams to set standards, support effective practice and ensure HyFlex contributes to student choice, inclusion and success.

This will require confidence, resilience and sound judgement, with the ability to challenge constructively, bring colleagues together and maintain momentum where priorities or expectations differ.

As Head of Digital Flexible Education, your main duties will include:

  1. Providing strategic leadership for HyFlex and flexible learning, setting priorities, standards and expectations across Birkbeck.
  2. Supporting pedagogical innovation by working with faculty, programme and digital education teams to design inclusive and effective HyFlex learning.
  3. Working with learning spaces and classroom technology teams to specify requirements and support reliable delivery.
  4. Improving the student experience by listening to students and coordinating the guidance, training and support they need to participate confidently.
  5. Building staff capability through development, guidance and support that improves consistency and quality of delivery.
  6. Evaluating impact, addressing barriers and providing clear recommendations, policy input and assurance to support decision-making.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of flexible education at Birkbeck and help ensure our approaches are sustainable, inclusive and educationally effective.

To succeed as Head of Digital Flexible Education, you will bring a strong understanding of digital education, a track record of delivering strategic change, and the interpersonal skills to build relationships, influence colleagues and work collaboratively across the College.

The post sits in the Digital Education team within Information Services and works closely with senior educational leadership across the University.

If you are ready to lead the next phase of flexible education at Birkbeck, we would welcome your application!
