Birkbeck, University of London, is currently looking for a Demonstrator to support the teaching course on BSc and MSc Psychology programmes. This is an excellent opportunity to support the teaching team within the School of Psychological Sciences. 

As Demonstrator you will teach the following modules:

To teach this module, previous experience of working as a Demonstrator, supporting research methods courses, would be beneficial. Familiarity and prior experience with building experiments in Gorilla Experiment Builder would also be beneficial. Selected candidates would be expected to become familiar with the software by Week 3 of the role.

  • 28 April - 07 July 2025 (excluding four weeks (TBD).

As Demonstrator you will assist in the delivery of predetermined programmes of teaching to Birkbeck Psychological Science students (under academic supervision) to facilitate the successful completion of their studies. You should engage in the scholarship necessary to ensure good practice in teaching and to apply appropriate levels of knowledge in the subject areas to be taught.

To succeed as Demonstrator in this role, you will have:

  • A first degree in Psychology, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Advanced experience in using a range of statistical techniques and report writing suitable for quantitative psychological science research.
  • Confident presentation skills and ability to clearly and effectively pass on specialist subject area knowledge.
  • A good working knowledge of SPSS, and experience of marking coursework and/or exams.
  • Awareness of the needs of part-time adult learners and ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students and inspire them to learn.

Remuneration:

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £23.96 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 6, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, and other examining duties in connection with the course.
