Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for a Demonstrator to join the teaching team, and support the School of Natural Sciences this Autumn 2026. 

We have an excellent opportunity for a Demonstrator to support one or more modules (listed below) for 3 hours, 1pm – 4pm or/and 6pm – 9pm (Day dependent on module) from October to December 2026. 

You will have knowledge of, and experience of, one of the required module areas and be qualified to the corresponding level of the award as required to teach (or demonstrate equivalent professional/industry level experience).

  • Practical Skills for the Biosciences,
  • Infectious Bacteria and Antibiotics, 
  • Specialist Laboratory Research Project, 
  • Sequence Analysis and Omics, 
  • Biocomputing, 
  • The Molecular Basis of Life,
  • Laboratory Skills in Biochemistry,
  • Chemistry,
  • Biology,
  • Evolution and Genetics.

Salary:

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £24.55 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 6, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, and other examining duties in connection with the course. 

Contract:
