Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Tutor to join the teaching team on the Certificate of Higher Education, BSc Foundation Year and BA Programmes, and support the School of Psychological Sciences this Autumn 2026.

  • Psychology Study Skills, Level 4
  • Saturday afternoons

Your role will be to support teaching, in order to enable students to complete their studies successfully and undertake related course administrative duties as required. Your main responsibility will be preparation and assisting with the studying skills focused seminar, teaching, and providing feedback on formative assessment on the Psychology Study Skills module.   

The module is delivered on Saturday afternoons: 

  1. Session 1: 10th October 2026 12-3pm 
  2. Session 2: 31st  October 2026 12-3pm 
  3. Session 3: 5th December 2026 12-3pm
  4. Session 4: 23rd January 2027 12-3pm 
  5. Session 5: 13th February 2027 12-3pm 
  6. Session 6: 19th June 2027 12-3pm 

In addition to the criteria specified in the job pack, the minimum requirements for selection are listed below:

  • A degree in Psychology.   
  • Relevant teaching experience, working with adult students within the HE sector.
  • A good understanding of the needs of full and part-time adult learners and be able to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm. 
  • Experience of (or willingness to develop) a wide range of teaching and assessment methods.  
  • Demonstrably effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills across a range of relevant contexts.
  • A working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel, e-mail and experience of (or willingness to use) Moodle & Teams.

Contract

Remuneration

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £61.39 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 6 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at x2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
