Associate Lecturer A - Intervention Design and Evaluation

We have an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer A to join the teaching team on the MSc/MA Specialist Psychology programmes for the following module:

• Intervention Design and Evaluation, Level 7
• 25 hours of teaching
• Mondays afternoon 2-4:30pm

Your role will be to deliver teaching to Birkbeck students, in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully and undertake all related course administrative duties as required. Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment the Intervention Design and Evaluation module, which is a Level 7 module offered as part of our MSc/MA Specialist Psychology programmes.

This module explores the main theories and methods used in the design and evaluation of health-related / behavioural interventions in both controlled and real-world situations. Including RCTs and pragmatic trials, implementation of interventions as well as specialist topics such as cultural competency and tech-based interventions.  The module is assessed through a 2500-word essay. 

Classes are scheduled to start on Monday 11^th January 2027 for 10 sessions. Reading week 15^th February, where no class will take place. Coursework for this module will be submitted in April 2027.

In addition to the criteria specified in the job pack, the minimum requirements for selection are listed below:

• A degree in Psychology.   
• Pursuing or completed a postgraduate degree in Psychology or related area.  
• An excellent understanding of the ethical and reflective practice and the application of psychology to a variety of work contexts.
• An understanding of communication, relationships and emotions in the workplace and work-related stress (or a willingness to explore these).
• Relevant teaching experience, working with adult students within the HE sector.
• A good understanding of the needs of full and part-time adult learners and be able to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm. 
• Experience of (or willingness to develop) a wide range of teaching and assessment methods.  
• Demonstrably effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills across a range of relevant contexts.
• A working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel, e-mail and experience of (or willingness to use) Moodle & Teams. 
• Particularly able to work both as part of a team and independently as appropriate. 
• Willing to engage in reflective practice. 

Please note: candidates need to demonstrate competence or significant potential in all areas.

Desirable:

• A teaching qualification

The successful candidate will be required to teach all sessions on the module.

Remuneration:

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £69.68 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
